Baripada: An elderly woman was reportedly trampled to death by an elephant in Pithabata forest range in Mayurbhanj district Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Bimala Mohant of Ahari village. Bimala had gone to a forest to collect firewood in the morning, but did not return home. Her family searched for her, but failed to trace her.
Some locals found her body in the forest Wednesday. When her family members came to know that she was trampled to death by an elephant, they intimated the forest officials at Pitahabata range.
The body was seized and sent for post-mortem.
