Baripada: A woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker at Jamunti village under Karanjia Forest Division in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday night.
Sarmistha Mohanta was on her way to the gram panchayat office where she worked as a guard when the pachyderm attacked her. The jumbo, which had sneaked into the village three days ago, attacked Sarmistha and trampled her to death.
Locals, who first spotted the body, informed the forest officials.
Villagers alleged that the forest officials were not taking adequate measures to prevent such incidents.
Notably, a 50-year-old man was killed by the same tusker in the neighbouring Dumuria village Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Rabindra Mohanta, was on his way to work when the jumbo attacked him and trampled him to death.
Agitated locals had blocked the road between Karanjia and Jashipur.
