Konark: A married woman attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze over a family feud at Bedapur village in Puri district. The victim has been identified as Bineeta Behera (40).
According to sources, following a family dispute Bineeta immolated herself. However, she was rescued by fire services personnel who promptly reached the spot after being informed about the woman’s suicide attempt.
However, after suffering 80% burns, the chances of her survival are remote according to doctors attending to her at the Gop Community Health Centre (CHC).
The victim has alleged that she took the extreme step following mental harassment by her family members. However, some locals stated that the lady is ‘mentally imbalanced’.
“I poured kerosene on my body and set myself on fire to end my life as my family wanted me to live in an ashram. They also wanted to and kill me,” Bineeta has said in her confession.
