Woman who slapped ‘Romeos’ feted by police

Bhubaneswar: Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi Tuesday felicitated Babita Mohalik who thrashed two eve teasers at Rasulgarh here Sunday afternoon. The issue came to the fore when some onlookers posted the video of Babita’s brave act on social media that soon went viral Monday.

Speaking to media persons, Sarangi urged the denizens to inform police about any such incidents before tackling the anti-social elements. He also urged the people to give a helping hand to the victims instead of remaining as mute spectators. “We will also discuss with college girl students and working women about the difficulties they have been facing every day. We will also appoint anyone of them who is interested in working with the police as Special Police Officers as well,” said Sarangi.

Meanwhile, Babita said women should not feel alone and weak as police, media and social media are there to help them while in distress. She urged other girls to raise their self-confidence and stop road Romeos’ anti-social behaviour.

Notably, the young woman taught a befitting lesson to two miscreants who were chasing her on a bike, passing lewd comments and making obscene gestures while she was on her way to the market Sunday.
