‘Woman whose headless body was found in Chandaka was pregnant’

Bhubaneswar: The twin city Commissionerate Police Friday set up a special team, headed by an additional DCP rank official, to probe the ghastly murder of an unidentified woman whose headless body was found in Chandaka area here, Thursday.

Speaking to the media, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Umashankar Dash said that five other senior officials would assist the additional DCP.

Meanwhile, the headless body was sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, for further examinations. Earlier, medical officers at the Capital Hospital here had conducted the post-mortem of the body, Thursday.

The investigating officials hope to get vital clues from the autopsy report. Meanwhile, sources in the police revealed startling facts about the deceased lady. The cops suspect that the victim was probably one-month pregnant at the time of her murder.

The sources also claimed that the miscreants had reportedly strangulated the victim to death several hours before bringing her body to the spot on Dasapur-Andharua road. The accused allegedly severed her head at the secluded spot near Dasapur village where the body was found Thursday morning.

Later, they fled from the spot along with the severed head, which they might have disposed of somewhere else. The cops also found C-section surgery marks on the torso of the victim. However, police are yet to ascertain the identity of the deceased.

A senior police official told Orissa POST that the lady might be a native of some other state. They have no clue to identify the woman apart from the one anchor-shaped branding mark on her arm.

The police also sent the details regarding the lady to police stations in the neighbouring states to the identity of the victim. The slum dwellers near the spot are also being questioned.
