Bhawanipatna: A woman’s body was found hanging in a locked room of her house at Kantabanji in Kalahandi district Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Mita Naik. Her family members alleged that her in-laws had tortured her for dowry, leading to her death.
Sources said, Mita of Bhawanipatna married Suresh Pradhan of Kantabanji in 2009. Soon after, physical and mental torture began as her husband and in-laws demanded more dowry.
After bearing years of torture, Mita’s patience finally gave way in November last year and she lodged a police complaint. However, the situation did not change and not being able to bear the pain, Mita took the extreme step, her family alleged.
On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the body for post-mortem. Investigation is on to ascertain the cause of her death, they said.
