Rayagada: The body of a woman, who had allegedly jumped into River Jhanjabati Saturday, was recovered from at Ramachandrapur village on the outskirts of the town here Monday.
The identity of the woman is not known. Her body is kept at the mortuary of the District Headquarters Hospital here. The police think it might be the body of the woman who had jumped from the railway bridge here Saturday.
Sources said villagers saw the body floating in the river and alerted the police. Later, fire service personnel recovered the body and sent it to DHH for postmortem.
The body would be kept at the mortuary for three days and will be handed over to her relatives if found. Otherwise, the last rites would be performed in front of a magistrate, said sub-inspector Sankar Panda.
The woman had gone to Majhighariani Temple Saturday afternoon and then jumped into the water from the railway bridge.
A railway staffer, who was working on the track, told locals about this. They informed the police and a search was launched by fire services personnel Saturday evening, but they failed to find the body.
