Woman’s burnt body found at house

Bhubaneswar: The partially-burnt body of a woman was found at her residence in Hostel Square in the Unit-9 area under Sahid Nagar police limits Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Chitralekha Patra, 49, a housewife.
According to sources, some locals saw her body lying inside the house and informed the owner about it. After being informed, Saheed Nagar police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it for autopsy. The deceased woman’s husband, Niranjan Patra, who had gone for morning walk reported to the police that she had committed suicide. However, later the police detained Niranjan for questioning him.
According to police, of late Niranjan and his wife used to have arguments over their landlord asking them to leave their rented premises by September 10.
Chitralekha wanted to leave the rented house immediately, but Niranjan insisted on waiting till construction of their own house in the city was completed, police said. The family has been staying at the outhouse of a government quarter for the past several years. They recently had some tiff with the house owner, Tapan Kumar Malla. Malla claimed that the dispute was resolved amicably and the couple agreed to leave the outhouse by September 10.”We have often heard the couple fighting over money and other issues”, he said.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s brother-in-law also said a complaint against the landlord was registered with the Sahid Nagar police. However, some sources in police claimed that the action of her husband raised suspicion as after reporting his wife’s death to the police he, instead of going to his residence, went off somewhere else.
