Cuttack: Doctors at the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here have reattached the severed fingers of a woman who met with a road mishap July 4.
A team of doctors at the Plastic Surgery department of SCBMCH comprising Bibhuti Bhusan Nayak, Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty and Prashant Kumar Bal reattached the severed fingers of Susama Bal, 48, of Pipli area in Puri district through a rare surgery that lasted for 11 hours, sources said.
According to sources, Bal had lost four fingers of her left hand in the road accident. Bal’s relatives had contacted several private hospitals in Bhubaneswar to stitch back her severed fingers.
Bal was admitted to the Plastic Surgery department of SCBMCH after none of the private hospitals in the Capital city came forward to restore her severed fingers, sources added.
“Bal’s severed fingers were restored through an 11-hour-long surgery. She is doing well and the restored fingers have started functioning to some extent,” said a doctor.
