Hinjilicut: Police arrested a youth Tuesday in connection with a suicide bid by a woman on February 18 after her obscene photographs morphed by him went viral on social media under this police limits in Ganjam district.
Police nabbed Sumit Pattnaik (22) and produced him in court Tuesday. He was remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
Police said Pattnaik allegedly opened a fake Facebook account in the name of the woman and uploaded her obscene photographs which he had morphed from the pictures stored in her mobile phone.
Pattnaik was able to do that after the survivor gave her mobile phone to him for repair. He downloaded the videos and pictures of the woman from her phone and morphed them into obscene photographs. Pattnaik, after blackmailing the woman for money and could not get anything, uploaded her obscene photographs by opening a fake Facebook account. The woman, fearing social boycott, consumed poison and tried to commit suicide on February 18.
Family members admitted her to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The woman, after regaining her consciousness, narrated her ordeal before her family members. Her husband lodged a complaint with the Cyber Police station in Berhampur and later at the Hinjili police station. Hinjili police registered a case and arrested Pattnaik.
