Nischintakoili, August 23: Tension over the murder of a youth of Baramania village under this panchayat in Cuttack district due to an alleged love affair escalated again Sunday with local women blocking the Cuttack-Chandbali road protesting police inaction and demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
Satyanarayan Swain, who had gone missing from home August 18, was found dead on the banks of river Luna in Dasamauji village under Marshaghai police limits in neighbouring Kendrapara district August 20. Since then, six days have passed but the police have failed to trace
the culprits.
The women accompanied by villagers also insisted on removal of all liquor shops from Nischintakoili market. The blockade threw traffic out of gear as hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on both sides of the road while pedestrians and cyclists had a harrowing time commuting.
On being informed, Salipur sub-divisional police officer Suryakant Ray, Mahanga police station inspector-in-charge (IIC) Soumendra Sekhar Tripathy, Nischintakoili IIC Pradyumna Behera and other police officials rushed to the spot and tried to placate the agitator.
The protesters relented after Ray assured them of arresting the culprits within a week. Meanwhile, the police have detained two persons who are being interrogated in this connection.
