Remuna: Amidst allegations of widespread bootlegging of country liquor in Kalyanpur panchayat under Remuna police limits of Balasore district, a group of women staged protests here Tuesday demanding action against the liquor traders.

The women activists alleged that the villages are now flooded with both country and foreign liquor which have left scores of poor families tattered.

They voiced concern over the possibility of a liquor tragedy if liquor proliferation is allowed to continue.

Raising slogans against the trade, women took out a massive rally to stop the menace in the locality from Gangapura to Haladia village. Besides, they accused the government of promoting liquor trade to earn more revenue.

Most of these campaigners were housewives and members of SHGs. They demanded the excise and police to conduct raids on hooch brewing units in the area and take action against the accused traders.
