Dhenkanal: A labourer was killed while two others sustained critical burn injuries after coming in contact with an 11 KV electric cable during an installation work at Tumusingha village under Kamakhyanagar block in this district Sunday morning.
The incident took place while three labourers were engaged in construction work for a homepathic hospital at Tumusingha.
The deceased has been identified as Srikant Behera. The other two workers have been identified as Gobinda Jena and Ajit Behera. The two were rescued and admitted to the local hospital.
After preliminary aid, they have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
The incident has spread resentment among the locals. Angry villagers blamed the electricity department of engaging the workers under hazardous conditions. They demanded immediate arrest of the officials responsible for the electrocution deaths.
Soon after the incident, locals blocked the Tumusingh-Saanda road demanding compensation for the victim’s family. Police intervened and pacified the irate villagers after which the blockade could be cleared.
