Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has decided to extend the work duration of lecturers to seven hours a day. It has also made 75% attendance mandatory for the students to appear in examinations.
A decision on this context was taken in a meeting between Plus – III government college principals and Higher Education Department officials at the Panthanivas in Bhubaneswar Saturday.
The meeting, chaired by Higher Education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, decided that the lecturers have to dedicate two additional hours for research and academic development work apart from their five hours of regular classes and must take at least 25 classes per week as per UGC norms.
Given only 16 out of 52 colleges have biometric attendance system in place, the Department has decided to set up biometric systems in all government colleges in the state.
These apart, a decision was also taken to fill up the principal positions in various government colleges.
