WORLD CUP SPORTS FESTIVAL:Govt body provides impetus to sporting spirit across state

BHUBANESWAR:  Biju Yuva Vahini (BYV) is organising a World Cup Sports Festival across the state to create a facilitating atmosphere for sports with a focus on good health.

The chief purpose of this event is to create a sporting awareness among people from every corner of the state. Various individual and team sport events are being organised for this purpose at all GP and Block level in all the districts of the state. These sporting events are being held simultaneously with the Hockey World Cup 2018 in the Capital to augment the sporting environment in the state.

As part of the festival, various initiatives have been undertaken, so as to ensure that people in the remote pockets of the state can feel and connect to the current sportive spirit. The festival kicked off with BYV volunteers organising a mini marathon ‘Run for Hockey’ November 25 at the district, block and GP levels across the state.

Around 5 lakh people participated in the mini marathon. They attempted to create mass awareness on World Cup Hockey 2018, which is being hosted at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. BYV has also procured more than 6 lakh ‘Good Luck’ messages for Team India through their signature campaign. BYV had also facilitated public viewing of the grand opening ceremony of Hockey World Cup November 26, 2018, at all District, Block/ULB and household levels. LCD screens were installed at strategic locations in the districts and blocks for public viewing of the opening ceremony.

Similarly, BYV members had facilitated the arrangements at the GP levels too. The Panchayat Executive Officer was tagged to every GP to ensure smooth organization of the public viewing programmes. Further, special efforts were taken by BYV members to mobilize volunteers at the household level for group viewing of the opening ceremony. More than 30 lakh people witnessed the opening ceremony at the villages across state.

“BYV members successfully mobilized more than 50 lakh people across the State who witnessed the opening ceremony at various levels,” said Seta Mishta, Team Head of the technical support unit of Sports and Youths Affairs department.

Biju Yuva Vahini is also facilitating the organisation of various team and individual sports at the Block and GP level respectively during this period (Nov 26 – Dec 16, 2018). The finals of the team events will culminate on December 16, 2018, which happens to be the concluding day of the Hockey World Cup.

“Simultaneously, District Youth Conclaves will also be organised in all districts December 16, 2018 which will provide a platform to showcase the good practices of Biju Yuva Vahini (BYV) volunteers in various social and developmental fields and help to recognize and encourage Yuva Vahinis for the innovative social actions at their locality. These conclaves will conclude with public viewing of the closing ceremony of Hockey World Cup 2018,” said Prem Chand Chaudhary, CEO, BYV.
