Jeypore, August 12: Local municipal health officials in Koraput district Wednesday seized over 200 bottles of stale pickle from a lodge here which had been kept for sale. The consumer items were manufactured about four years back and insects were found in some of the bottles, the officials said.
Acting on a tip-off that the items would be sold in the market, municipal health officer Gopalkrushna Nayak with the help of town police raided room no 33 of Woodland Lodge at MG Road here. During the raid, the officials found pickle and sauce made from green chilly, mango, lemon, tomato and various vegetables manufactured during 2012-13. The bottles carrying the sticker named ‘Prince’ didn’t have the ISI certification.
When contacted, the owner of the lodge said, P Venkat Rao, a local agent of the company keeps the bottle booking a room here.
The district level food security department has been apprised of the incident. Later, a special team started an inquiry into the incident. Further action would be taken on the report of the team, Nayak said.
