Xiaomi to launch Redmi 8 soon, here is what to expect

After the successful launch of Redmi 8A, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced the launch of Redmi 8 in Indian market October 9 at about 9:00am. Xiaomi, which currently is the market leader in smartphone segment in the country owing to the wide acceptance of its Redmi brand, hopes to widen the gap with its rivals further with the launch of this budget smartphone.

While Xiaomi India MD Manu Kumar Jain took to Twitter to announce the launch, Redmi took to Twitter to give a sneak peek into several of its features.

Here is all we know so far:

The new Redmi 8 series will succeed Redmi 7A and Redmi 7 that was launched in India earlier this year. While the launch date has been announced, the availability and platform on which it is going to be available is yet to be announced. That said, a source suggests that the Phone is likely to land on Amazon initially apart from MI website since the 8A went to Flipkart.

The phone should be ready for delivery before Diwali sales begin about October 12.

From what Redmi has teased so far, Redmi 8 will come with better camera and several other battery features. The phone is likely to be powered by a 5,000mAh battery.

The teaser speaks about a dual-rear camera setup on the phone with a ‘flagship Sony sensor’ with improved edge detection and precise skin tone mapping. The company already claims it to be the best sensor below Rs 20,000. It is going to offer a larger screen with Gorilla Glass, though the version of the Gorilla Glass is yet to be announced. Besides, the phone is P2I splash resistant, if Xiaomi MD Jain’s cryptic tweets are something to go by.

On the battery front, the phone claims to have ‘the most updated battery setup’. Another Redmi teaser shows a dot notch display on the front with a larger screen. The teasers suggest the phone will come with an Aura Mirror design.

While the technical specifications of the phone are yet to be disclosed, reports suggest that it is likely to come with 4GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor. The phone is rumoured to come with a large 6.26-inch HD+ display and a camera setup with 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel Sony sensors on the rear. The selfie camera is likely to be an 8-megapixel one.
