Bhubaneswar, August 25: Yashita Rout and Priansh Das ended as runners-up in girls’ and boys’ categories of the National Under-7 Chess Championship which concluded Tuesday at the Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai Tuesday. Five girls and eight boys had participated in the competition from the state. Other players who finished in top 20 were Sriansh Das (11th- 8pts), Rajveer B Pal (14th-7.5 pts) and Koustuv Das (18th-7.5 pts).
Chess tourney
The IMT All Odisha Open School Chess Championship 2015 is scheduled to start from August 28th to 30th at IMT Pharmacy College in Puri.
All school Students up to class-10 (Open) can participate in the event where the total prize money is `25000. The entry fee for the tourney is `300.
Rich medal haul
Orissa bagged two gold and seven silver medals in the IAKO National Kick-Boxing Championship held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune August 19 to 23.
11 kick-boxers of Bal Bhavan, Bhubaneswar had represented the state in the meet. Asif Anwar and Sitam Sahoo bagged goldmedals. While Sattvic Shubhoday, Trinath Bhol, Kailash Behera, Satyanarayan Maharana, Sitam Sahoo, Siddharth Sahoo and Rajbir Patra won silver medals in their respective events.
Tragic end
Akash Mohapatra, a promising young cricketer belonging from Puri breathed his last Monday after suffering a massive heart attack.
The talented 23-year old all-rounder had represented Puri in different district level tournaments and was a member of Mahavir Club in Puri and Bhubaneswar Town Club.
Jagdish Chandra Routray, president of Puri Cricket Association and Bhubaneswar Town Club’s president, Manoj Mohapatra paid their last tributes to the departed soul and commended him for his
worthwhile services to their respective teams.
