Young men affix radium stickers on stray animals to minimise road mishaps

Kendrapara: Several young men under the banner of Kendrapara Seva Samiti and Sikhita Yubak Samaj have developed an innovative idea to prevent road accidents caused due to stray cattle on the road at night.

The youths pasted radium reflective stickers on stray animals moving on the Cuttack-Chandbali road.

Thanks to their effort, the road mishap has reduced a lot, especially on the accident-prone Jamdhar -Chandol bazaar and Rajnagar road.

Every month, more than six persons die and around 12 people get injured in road accidents here due to roaming of stray cattle on the Cuttack- Chandbali road.

During the rainy and winter season, drivers face a lot of issues as it becomes tough to notice these stray animals owing to poor visibility at night.

”We discussed how to prevent such road mishaps and decided to paste radium reflective stickers on the horn and forehead of the stray cows to prevent accidents,” said President of Kendrapara Seva Samiti Manoj Naik.

“We have already affixed radium reflective sticker on more than 200 stray cattle in Rajnagar and also in Chandol area and have a target to do so on all the stray cattle roaming on Cuttack-Chandbali road,” said a member of Sikhita Yuba Samaj Sumant Kumar Pradhan.

Road mishaps have reduced significantly on the Cuttack-Chandabali stretch following the initiatives taken by the youths, assistant fire officer of Kendrapara Birabhadra Tudu said.
