Angul: Getting a job as a supervisor at the district weather department was a childhood dream for Bhagaban Pani.
Pani as a child had always been curious to know how the temperature of day and night is recorded, how the quantity of rainfall is measured, etc.
A resident of Angul town, Pani retired as a clerk from district headquarters office in the year 2007. When he was offered to work as a supervisor at the weather department on the premises of district headquarters office, he readily accepted it.
He was then sent to Kolkata for seven days to undergo training. “Initially I used to face some problems. But since I had been eager to know all the things about how temperature and rainfall is measured, I started working putting my heart and soul into it and few days later everything became normal for me,” he narrated.
Over the years he has become an expert. Now he reaches office at around 8.30am every day and sends reports to the regional centre of India Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar. “I am discharging my duty sincerely no matter how inclement the weather condition is. My job is to inform people about the correct readings of weather condition. This apart, I have been the supervisor of the assembly constituency that is under the Angul sub-collector. I am happy with my present job,” he observed.
“Even at this advancing age I am working eight hours a day. But I never feel tired of it or complain about it because I am happy for my childhood desire has been fulfilled,” he added.
For him age is just a number. The sincerity and agility with which he works should be seen to be believed. Young men should take a leaf from his book, locals observed.
