K. Nuagaon: A youth was arrested on the charge of raping a college girl here in Kandhamal district, police said Sunday.
The accused was identified as Achyut Sahu, a resident of Puruna Sahi in Sarangad, G Udayagiri SDPO Amaresh Kumar Panigrahi said. The victim is a second year student of a local college.
Sahu admitted to his crime during interrogation and was later taken for a medical examination along with the victim. He was produced in a court and a further investigation was on, Sarangad IIC Chandamani Singh said.
Sahu allegedly followed the victim to Salaguda village when she had been there to take part in Raja festival at her friend’s house June 15. He took the girl to the boys’ hostel of Sarangada high school on some pretext and raped her there. The girl lost her sense following which Sahu fled the scene.
On being informed, family members rescued the victim and admitted her to Sarangad health centre. Later, they lodged a complaint with the police.
