Nayagarh: Nayagarh district POCSO court judge Niranjan Panda convicted a youth for kidnapping and raping a school girl and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with Rs 30,000 penalty, Wednesday.
According to special public prosecutor Amiya Pattanayak, a 13- year-old girl from Odagaon area was going to her school as usual when Bulu Nayak of Chadheyapalli village under Sarankul police limits kidnapped the girl October 9 in 2018.
Later he raped the girl in a forest. In the evening, he took the girl to his home where he again forced himself upon the minor. Unable to find the girl, her family members complained at Odagaon PS the next day. After the complaint Odagaon police rescued the girl from the accused’s house at Chadheyapalli and after hearing the girl’s ordeal police registered a kidnapping and rape case (214/18) and forwarded the accused to court after arresting him.
After being denied bail the accused was sent to jail. After some days the accused managed to get bail from the High Court. The POCSO court heard the case Tuesday and delivered its verdict after hearing 14 eyewitnesses and basing on the medical report and the case diary. The judge also directed the district legal services authority (DLSA) to provide Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the victim
