Youth burnt alive in sleep as houses catches fire

Sonepur: In a tragic incident, a youth was charred to death after fire from an unknown source broke out in his house while he was fast asleep after dinner late Tuesday night at Ghichapali village under Birmitrapur police limits in Sonepur district.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Bibhar (30).

Even as neighbors tried their best to rescue Bibhar, hearing the screams, but to no avail. The blaze engulfed the whole house before fire tender could reach for the rescue operation.

According to sources, Bibhar as usual had his dinner and went to bed Tuesday night. The fire broke out inside the house late last night when Ranjan was sleeping. Luckily, none of his family members were present in the house as they had gone to a relative’s house for some work.

On being informed, Fire personnel reached the spot and doused the flames. However, it was too late to save Ranjan as his charred body was recovered from the house, which was also gutted in the blaze.

The reason behind the outbreak of fire is yet to be ascertained. While rumours did round that someone might have set the house on fire over previous enmity, nothing has been confirmed. Some villagers said the fire might have broken out due to short-circuit.

Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for autopsy while a probe was launched.
