Nayagarh: A youth, who was a member of a groom entourage, died Friday under mysterious circumstances following which tension erupted at Barbati village near Sadar in Nayagarh district.
Alleging that the youth was murdered, the deceased’s family members and villagers staged a demonstration with the body in front of the accused’s house from Saturday afternoon.
The marriage of Saumya Ranjan Pradhan, sarpanch of Laxmiprasad under Nayagarh block, was held in Bhubaneswar.
People from Barbati and other villages of the panchayat went to Bhubaneswar as part of the entourage.
While the villagers went to Bhubaneswar in a bus, Sunil and Rishi Pradhan went on a bike.
At about 11 pm, their bike met with an accident at Khandagiri square in Bhubaneswar following which Sunil died on the spot.
Later Khandagiri police seized the body and conducted the post-mortem.
The body reached the village Saturday afternoon. Accusing Rishi of murdering Sunil, family members and villagers staged a demonstration with Sunil’s body in front of Rishi’s house.
Denying the allegation, Rishi’s father Pitabas told villagers that his son himself is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
However, Sunil’s family members stuck to their point that the body would only be lifted after the arrival of Rishi.
