Chhatrapur: In a shocking incident, a youth committed suicide by hanging after killing his wife and a 10-month-old son over suspected domestic dispute at Talaputabagad village under Chamakhandi police limits in Ganjam district late Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Sujan Pradhan, his wife Runi Pradhan, 28, and 10-month old son Rumesh Pradhan. Sujan killed his wife and son by slitting their throats with a saw before committing suicide by hanging.
On being informed, Ganjam ASP Thakur Prasad Patra, Chhatrapur SDPO Goutam Kishan, Chamakhandi IIC Sitanshu Sekhar Mandhata rushed to the spot and started an investigation. A scientific team was also pressed into service and a case registered in this connection. Police suspect the couple might have also fought with each other before Sujan killed his wife and son and committed suicide.
The matter came to the fore when Sujan’s mother went up to the first floor of their house to call him to go and bring subsidized rice being distributed in the village Wednesday. He found his daughter-in-law and grandson lying in a pool of blood and son hanging from the ceiling.
She raised an alarm as her elder son Sadananda rushed and checked the three and found them already dead. He informed Chamakhandi police who recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Locals said Sujan married Runi two years back but the couple was not on good terms and always fought with each other at the slightest pretexts. They suspected that Sujan might have taken the extreme step as he was reeling from poverty. When contacted, Chamakhandi IIC said the actual reason behind the killing could be ascertained after the post-mortem report of the three is available to them.
