Youth gets 10-yr RI for abducting, raping minor

Dhenkanal: A local court Monday awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to a youth after convicting him of abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl at Rosal area in this district. According to the case diary, the incident occurred February 16, 2017.

Dhenkanal POCSO magistrate and additional district sessions judge Lalatendu Jena awarded the jail-term to Nirakar Nahak (23). The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on Nahak. He would undergo an additional six-month jail-term, if he fails to pay the fine, the court ruled.

Nahak abducted the girl while she was watching a dance programme. Subsequently, he kept her in several places and outraged her modesty. Based on a complaint by the girl’s family members, police rescued the girl, while Nahak managed to escape.

Later, acting on a tip-off, a police team arrested Nahak and he was produced in court. The court pronounced the verdict after examining the statements of 17 witnesses in the case.
