Youth gets 10-yr RI for raping differently-abled

Nimapara: The assistant district sessions judge, Saturday, pronounced 10 year rigorous imprisonment for a youth after finding him guilty in connection with the rape of a differently-abled woman at Kanpur village under Ramchandi police limits June 14, 2015.

Judge Puja Sarangi also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on convict Alok Nayak. She made it clear that the convict will serve additional imprisonment of six months if he fails to pay the penalty.

Nayak was convicted under Sections 376 and 457 under the IPC. As per the prosecution, Nayak had barged into the victim’s house while she was asleep at night. He had forcibly taken the victim to a nearby temple and raped her.

Ramchandi police had registered a case against Nayak as per a complaint lodged by the victim’s uncle. The incident had caused a lot of hue and cry in the locality. The locals had sought stringent action against Nayak.
Subsequently, police had arrested Nayak and produced him in the court.

The assistant district sessions judge convicted Nayak by taking into account circumstantial evidences, police investigation and testimonies of witnesses.
Soon after the verdict, the convict was sent to Nimapara jail, sources said.
