Angul: A youth was awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment Friday after he was convicted of raping a 14-year-old girl after holding her captive for three days at Mundabajar village under Bikrampur police limits in this district.
Angul additional district and sessions judge imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict Swadhin Purthy (28) of Kendupali area and awarded the jail-term. He would undergo an additional six-month jail, if he defaults the fine, the court ruled.
According to the case diary, the incident occurred January 1, 2015. Swadhin called the girl on pretext of going to a relative’s house and took her to a rented house where he kept her for three days and raped her repeatedly.
He then brought back the girl and dropped her near the village January 3 and fled. The girl then went to her elder sister’s house and narrated her ordeal who then lodged a written complaint January 5.
Police registered a case and arrested Swadhin. Judge, Soubhangini Mallick awarded the jail-term, after examining the statements of 17 witnesses in the case.
