Youth hacked to death in Dhenkanal

Parjang: A youth was hacked to death over a petty issue by a fellow villager at Kualo village near Parjang in Dhenkanal district Friday. The deceased was identified as Chandan Behera while the accused has been identified as Minaketan Sahu of the same village.

According to reports, Chandan had ransacked a transformer near the house of Minaketan Sahu Friday. This led to a verbal spat between Minaketan, Chandan and his friend Raju.

The altercation took an ugly turn after Minaketan picked up an axe and hacked Chandan, critically injuring him. In bid to save his life, Raju fled the spot and informed the villagers about the incident.

After learning about the incident, locals rushed to the spot and rescued Chandan in a critical condition. He was then rushed to Talcher Mandapal hospital with severe bleeding.

After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Parajang government hospital where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.

Acting on a complaint by the deceased’s brother, police registered a case and sent the body for autopsy. The police launched a manhunt to nab the accused who is on the run after the incident.
