Nuagaon: Police claimed to have cracked the murder mystery of a woman and her son who were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a well at Barilepata panchayat under Bisra police limits in Sundargarh district arrested the prime accused Thursday.
Police arrested the accused, Incent Ekka (28), the live-in partner of the deceased woman and the father of the boy. During interrogation, Ekka confessed of killing the woman and her son after thewoman insisted him for marriage as they were in a live-in relationship. He was produced in court Friday.
Police had recovered the bodies of Phulmati, daughter of Chida Tirki of Teyantoli, and her six-month old son October 31.
Preliminary Police investigation suggested that it was a clear case of murder. And the post mortem report had corroborated the assumption. Registering a murder case, the police had furthered their investigation.
Taking the circumstantial evidences into consideration and inspecting the call records of Phulmati’s mobile phone, the police zeroed in on Ekka and arrested him from his residence at Hatunu village under Bisra police limits.
According to the police, Phulmati and Incent had been in love since sometime. Phulmati had stayed over at Ekka’s house a couple of times and she was like his wife. Phulmati had also insisted on marrying Ekka following all social rituals. However, Ekka was not keen on marrying her. They would often quarrel with each other and the matter was also put up in the village meeting where no solution was concluded.
Meanwhile, Phulmati gave birth to a male child six month ago. After having a son from their non-conjugal relationship, Phulmati kept on demanding marriage with Ekka according to rituals.
While avoiding the marriage topic, Ekka, on the other hand argued saying that the child was from her extra marital affairs and that he is not the father. Their argument would often end in intense verbal duel. As a result, Phulmati started staying at her parents’.
Phulmati received a call from Ekka October 26 at about 9.30 PM. While talking over the phone, she along with her son came out of the house and before she could sense it, Ekka, who had been lurking there, killed the mother and son duo by strangulating them.
In order to pass off it as an accident, he dumped the bodies into the nearby well and disappeared. The details were informed by Bisra police station IIC, Bikash Ranjan Swain while speaking to the media after the arrest.
