Youth held for uploading obscene pics

Dharmasala: The Dharmasala police Tuesday arrested a youth from Bhogada village in Khurda district on charges of uploading obscene pictures of a girl he had befriended on Facebook on social media platforms.

The accused has been identified as Nabakishore Behera.

The matter came to light after the girl, a college student from Dharmasala area in Jajpur, filed a written complaint against the youth at the local police station.

In the complaint, the girl alleged that they had developed friendship on Facebook. After frequent chats on the social media, their friendship gradually turned into a love relationship.

Meanwhile, the two had exchanged some pictures between themselves. However, issues cropped up after Behera reportedly asked her to lend him Rs 50,000.

He then started blackmailing her when she denied the huge amount. When the girl expressed her inability to meet his demand, he uploaded her obscene pictures on Facebook and WhatsApp, the complainant said.

“We came into contact through Facebook and subsequently developed an intimate relation. He wanted money for some reason… However, I could not arrange so much money and denied him. So, he started blackmailing me and a few days later uploaded the pictures on Facebook.”

Acting on the complaint of the girl, police launched a manhunt and arrested the youth from Khurda.

“A case was registered and the youth was arrested from Khurda. We also have seized a mobile phone from him,” IIC of Dharmasala PS, Umakant Nayak said, adding that he was later produced before the court.
