Chandipur (Balasore): Police claimed to have busted the murder mystery of Sapan Dalei (30) of Baghamunda village under Chandipur police limits in this district who was found dead in an isolated field Monday.
Police probe revealed Dalei was beaten to death for Rs 70. He had taken the money from a friend and did not return it on time. This led to a scuffle following which he was beaten to death, police said.
According to sources, Sapan of Inchudia village under Sadar police limits worked as a mason helper. After work, he went to drink ‘Handia’ a local wine. Meanwhile, he broke out in an altercation with the wine smuggler over previous balance of Rs 70 that he had used for drink.
In a fit of rage, the wine smuggler took a blunt object and hit on Sapan’s head. He along with his wife then fled, leaving Sapan dead on the spot.
Police detained the accused persons’s father-in-law for interrogation while a manhunt was launched to nab the absconders. Earlier, the villagers had staged road blockade demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
