Youth on ‘hunt’ becomes a prey in Malkangiri

Malkangiri:  A youth along with his village friends had gone into the jungle to hunt as part of month-long ongoing festival ‘Chaitra Parva’ here in this district. However, the hunter became the hunted when he was killed accidentally by arrows shot by his friends. The incident took place at Sindhiguda village under Khairaput block in Malkangiri district late Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Sania Mirgam.

Sources said Sania and some of his friends from the village had gone into a nearby jungle to hunt. The festival is known as ‘Bent Shikar’, which is a part of the ‘Chaitra Parva’ celebrations.

They came across a prey and surrounded it. In the process they forgot that they themselves had become targets. In the confusion two of the arrows shot at the animal missed the target and hit Sania under the left armpit, piercing his heart in the process. He died on the spot.

Sania’s family members however, have registered a complaint with the police, suspecting foul play. Acting on the complaint, Kudumulugumma outpost police registered a case. They seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. Police are looking into the matter from different angles including that of suspected murder, sources said.
