Bantala: A three-and-a half year old girl has allegedly been sexually assaulted by her cousin brother from a village near Bantala in Angul district.
Though the incident occurred Friday, it came to the fore Saturday night after a case was registered at Bantala police station.
According to the complaint, the girl child along with her mother and aunt (wife of her father’s elder brother) went to their onion field Friday afternoon. At 5 pm, she returned to her house alone.
However, at 10 pm she woke up and told her mother that she was feeling pain in her lower abdomen.
When asked, she narrated what her cousin brother did to her. The family members took her to a private hospital Saturday morning. The doctors advised them to take her to a government hospital and lodge a police complaint.
However, the accused’s family members persuaded the girl’s family against filing a case.
However, when the condition of the child got deteriorated, she had been taken to the Angul district hospital at 7 pm.
But the doctors instead of giving her any medical attention advised them to go to the police station following which a complaint was registered.
The girl is now undergoing treatment at Angul district hospital.
Chief District Medical Officer Dr Amarendranath Mohanty said the family should not have been made to go back from the hospital without treatment. “I will take steps after an inquiry into the incident,” he said.
Bantala inspector in charge Sabyasachi Rout said a case has already been registered and an investigation is on.
