Youths held for posing as MVIs

Jaleswar: Police arrested five youths who posed themselves as MVIs and were trying to extort money from tourist buses at Laxmannath Gate in Balasore Saturday.

According to reports, five tourist buses from Nepal, Chhattisgarh and Bihar reached Laxmannath Gate at 5 am Saturday. Immediately, six youths introduced them as MVIs and surrounded the buses.

Bus drivers produced their documents. But the youths demanded Rs 7,000 from each bus. Suspecting foulplay, some passengers asked their identities and started video recording of the scene.

The youths were enraged over it and snatched cell phones from passengers. The youths also attacked some passengers.

However, some passengers mustered courage and captured five of them. A driver and a woman were injured in the attack by youths.

Police rushed to the place and the youths were handed over to them. Passengers staged a protest. Jaleswar SDPO Sudarshan Das and IIC Pradip Majhi tried to placate the passengers.
