Zadran ruled out for a month due to knee injury

New Delhi: Afghanistan pacer Dawlat Zadran has been ruled out Monday of the historic one-off Test against India at Bangalore starting June 14 owing to a knee injury.

“Fast bowler @dawlat_zadarn suffered a knee injury during the training camp in India. He has been advised one month’s rest by doctors. Therefore, he will not be available for the T20I series against Bangladesh as well as Afghanistan’s one-off Test against India,” Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) tweeted Monday.

The Afghanistan team is currently practicing under the watchful eyes of coach Phil Simmons in Dehradun will play Bangladesh in a three-match T20 series starting June 3 before heading to Bangalore to play their first Test match. However, Zadran’s replacement has not been named yet.

Zadran, who has 137 wickets from 105 international matches, has been in good form for Afghanistan. During their title run in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 in Zimbabwe earlier this year, the 30-year-old pacer took eight wickets including a hat-trick in the warm-up match before the main tournament. The absence of an experienced paceman capable of hitting 140kph could leave the team with some concerns.
