Malkangiri: The Malkangiri Zilla Parishad has decided to take a tough stand on the issue of kendu leaf collectors and beedi workers not getting payment from traders.
The ZP has decided to set up a committee headed by the Sub-Collector which will be empowered to investigate and take strong action against the traders who are not paying their dues to kendu leaf collectors and beedi workers.
The committee will also take steps to prevent mismanagement in mandis next year. It will focus on providing rest sheds, drinking water and other basic facilities for farmers at mandis.
The ZP expressed concern at construction workers not getting payments as per the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. It was also decided to make provisions for constructing quarters for women health workers on the district main hospital’s premises, and to fill up the vacant posts of doctors and nurses.
Instructions were also given to officers to speed up work on roads, Awaas Yojana houses, irrigation facilities and drinking water projects.
The meeting was presided over by ZP Chairman Dasarath Padiami. Local MLA Manas Madakami, Vice-Chairperson Sulata Mandal, the PD of DRDA Lingaraj Panda, Additional Collector Birasen Pradhan, Sub-Collector Rameswar Pradhan and the APD of DRDA Manas Mishra were also present.
